Sapia Begum was married at a young age, but happiness did
not last long. Now run the family by fishing.
Shafiqul Islam Khokon is
expressing his grief over this woman from Patharghata in Barguna
It had been raining heavily since morning. On the way from
Patharghata municipal town to Wapda in Charduani village of the taluk via
Kanthaltali, I suddenly saw a woman.
At the age of sixty. Wearing cotton sari. Condition in the
rain. Fishing with nets in the canal flowing along the road. I went ahead out
of curiosity. He looked at his face once to ask the name. Later he picked up
the fish from the net and said, 'Dad, my name is Sapia. Husband, there is no
Polapan. The fish runs slowly (holding) the stomach. 'Since the morning, he has
been weak in catching fish soaked in rain. As soon as he spoke, he sat down on
the ground.
Happiness is not in the forehead
Sapphire was born into a poor family. Panta furat to bring
salt in the world. He did not have the good fortune to go to school. At a young
age, one has to get married. She was married in 1979 to Jalal Ahmed Talukder of
Auliarpur area of Galachipar in Patuakhali. After marriage, the family was
living happily. But within a few years, the in-laws started torturing her
mentally. 'Apaya' slander is on his forehead. Gradually the husband also
started torturing. Sapia did not have children even after 10 years of marriage.
The husband sent Sapia to her father's house for this 'crime'.
But Sapia's father was not well. The responsibility is to
run one's own stomach. The girl has fallen on him. Sapia said, 'After leaving
me, I took my wife's claim to my husband a few times, but they chased me away. '
At one stage Sapia moved to Khulna
with some of her savings. There he started selling drinks. He lived in the
house of an acquaintance. He bought 13 percent of the land at one time by
saving money from the sale of betel. Later he started cultivating shrimp in
that land. But the influential people of the area took possession of his fish
farm. Sapiya was once expelled from the area with slander. Sapia returned to
Patharghata. There, in a corner of the house of Shahjahan Talukdar of
Charduani, Sapiyar settled in a hut. Still staying there. And in the
surrounding canals and beels, he is fishing with jhankijal and selling whatever
he gets. He harvests paddy in winter and makes mung beans. Sometimes he also
works in other people's house.
Sapphire's house
Dochala is a hut. Shelter with palm leaves and polythene. The
fence of the house is made of palm leaves. When it rains, water falls on the
leaking rice. During the winter, the gap between the fence melts and the wind
blows into the canyon. But in the language of Sapia Begum, this is her
'paradise'. This is his peace. At least at the end of the day you can sleep. Champa
Begum is one of the family members of Sapia. Said, 'The man (Sapia) is very
simple. She works as a maid in another's house and catches fish. We try to give
if we need anything. Upazila Nirbahi Officer Hussain Muhammad Al-Mujahid said, "We
will try to provide employment to Sapia by making her a house or shop on behalf
of the government." And if I don't get old age allowance or widow
allowance, I will try to give it too. '
